The Gwaii Trust Society Major Contributions Grant is designed to support larger projects in community infrastructure and planning. Our goal is to help build safer, healthier, and more attractive communities. Major Contributions is designed to help enhance the lives of all islanders and make our island a more desirable place to live, work, play and visit. Service area: Haida Gwaii.
 

The grant focuses on the following priorities:

  • Improving Infrastructure: Support projects that enhance public spaces, facilities, and essential community services.

  • Community Health and Safety: Fund initiatives that promote the wellbeing and safety of island residents.

  • Beautification and Sustainability: Encourage projects that make communities more attractive and environmentally sustainable.

  • Fostering Economic Growth: Support projects that contribute to making Haida Gwaii a more vibrant place for business and tourism

Eligible Community

Eligible applicants include Haida Gwaii–based local governments and local non-profit organizations.Applicants must be located on Haida Gwaii and deliver projects that benefit Haida Gwaii communities.

Required Community Contribution

Minimum contribution varies by applicant type: non-profit organizations (25%), local governments (50%).

Specific Eligibility Requirements

Major Contributions is open to accepting a wide range of larger projects that seek to have a significant impact. Examples from past projects include: community infrastructure, environmental protection, feasibility studies, language revitalization, education, recreational infrastructure, housing, emergency preparedness, and wellness. 
 

Preference is given to:

  • Initiatives that create or sustain long-term employment

  • Projects that involve partnerships, collaborations, or other funding sources

  • Applications that benefit multiple communities or the island as a whole

Maximum grant amount: up to $200,000Minimum application amounts:

  • $25,000 for non‑profit organizations$50,000 for local governments

Maximum project length: up to two years
