Aligned with the BC Energy Step Code, the Indigenous Communities New Home Program provides up to $25,000 per unit to support the design and construction of building energy efficient homes using a dual fuel heating system or electricity supplied by FortisBC. Additional rebates are also available for installing qualifying, energy efficient appliances such as communicating thermostats, drain water heat recovery systems and more.

All Indigenous communities building new homes that will be heated by a dual fuel hearing system or electricity supplied by FortisBC are eligible to participate. This program is ideal for Indigenous communities who are looking for funding support to build new, energy efficient homes.

An Energy Advisor (EA) works with you to maximize the efficiency of your project and completes the reporting required to apply for the Step Code rebate of up to $25,000. Also, for Step Code 3, 4 or 5, up to $7,000 per home is available to cover the consulting fees of Integrated Design Process (IDP) consultants and/or a mechanical design specialist on individual homes.
