The 2024/25 BC Active Transportation Infrastructure Grants Program intake for local governments was open from September 3 – October 31, 2024.
A continuous intake is available for Indigenous Governments (including Indigenous Economic Development corporations where the Nation is the shareholder) and partnerships between Indigenous governments and local governments.

The B.C. Active Transportation Infrastructure Grants Program provides cost-sharing opportunities for network planning grants and infrastructure grants. Funding from these grant programs support the development of active transportation infrastructure for all ages and abilities. For example, infrastructure grants fund:
- Multi-use protected travel lanes
- Pedestrian and cycling safety improvements
- End-of-trip facilities and other amenities
- Lighting and way-finding
Active transportation relates to human-powered forms of commuting to work, school, recreation, socializing or running errands. It can take many forms and is continually evolving as new technologies emerge. It includes:
- Walking
- Cycling
- Rolling (skateboarding, in-line skating)
- Winter focused (cross-country skiing, snowshoeing)
- Water focused (kayaking, stand-up paddleboard)
- Other emerging modes

Funding Stacking Restrictions

The Province's share is calculated once all third-party contributions (provincial, federal, and private funds) have been deducted from the total eligible costs of the project. If third-party funding is available, it may be applied to the project outside the provincial cost-share portion. The Federal Gas Tax - Community Works Fund is not a third-party contribution because it is considered as the local government’s general revenue. The Community Works Fund can be counted as the applicants share toward the total project costs.
